RIMS LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT 2025
The RIMS Legislative Summit 2025 is scheduled for March 19 and 20 in Washington, DC at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. On March 19th, the event will feature an educational program delivered by risk professionals, elected officials and Congressional staff members. The sessions will cover the top legislative issues impacting the risk management and insurance communities, as well as strategies for effective lobbying. On March 20th, attendees will meet with elected officials and their legislative staff to share RIMS position on current and future legislation. To learn more and to register, visit:

RIMS LEGISLATIVE REVIEW: EXPLORING NEVADA'S
'DEFENSE WITHIN LIMITS' LAWS
Professional liability policies, including directors and officers and errors and omissions policies, generally provide defense within limits while commercial general liability policies generally provide defense outside limits. Recent legislation in Nevada attempts to eliminate the availability of defense within limits typically offered by professional liability policies. A new RIMS report identifies three pitfalls that would result from Nevada’s decision to eliminate “defense within limits” provisions in commercial insurance policies, as well as strategies to proactively address them. California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara and Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced a rapid response effort to prevent and prosecute insurance fraud targeting wildfire survivors. The partnership focuses on raising awareness, prosecuting fraud, and equipping survivors with tools to navigate recovery safely.

AuditBoard surveyed over 375 risk and audit leaders and found several key gaps in areas such as implementing and understanding AI (61% report a lack of understanding or expertise as a barrier to implementation) and developing strategic plans (57% report a range of impediments to strategic planning, from “uncertainties about the future” to “lack of experience”).

The Spencer Educational Foundation announced the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors effective January 1st. Lyndsey Christofer, Head of North America Casualty, Major Accounts for Chubb, and Stephen Hackenburg, Property & Casualty Leader, Commercial Risk North America for Aon, have been appointed as new directors. Additionally, Manuel Padilla, Vice President, Risk Management and Insurance at MacAndrews & Forbes Inc., has joined the board as a RIMS ex officio member. The following officers have been installed as the 2025-2026 Executive Committee of the Foundation: Chairperson – Johnell Holly, FM; President – Jeff Cohen, Zywave; Vice President – Bob Thomas, Liberty Mutual; Treasurer – Michael VanAcker, RT Specialty; and Secretary – Jackie Bolig, WTW.
