RIMS LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT 2025
The RIMS Legislative Summit 2025 is scheduled for March 19 and 20 in Washington, DC at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. On March 19th, the event will feature an educational program delivered by risk professionals, elected officials and Congressional staff members. The sessions will cover the top legislative issues impacting the risk management and insurance communities, as well as strategies for effective lobbying. On March 20th, attendees will meet with elected officials and their legislative staff to share RIMS position on current and future legislation. To learn more and to register, visit:

RIMS ON THE MALL 2025
The California Legislative Delegation is holding its 17th annual RIMS on the Mall in Sacramento from April 8-9. Registration is free for RIMS members. Over two days, participants will hear from key legislative and regulatory sources about what to expect for the foreseeable future. Along with the opportunity to network with risk management professionals from throughout the state, there will be a tour of the Capitol, an evening reception, and a keynote presentation.

COMMISSIONER LARA ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS
TO THE WCIRB GOVERNING COMMITTEE
California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has reappointed Mitch Steiger and C. Bryan Little to the California Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau (WCIRB) Governing Committee. Mitch Steiger is a Legislative Representative for CFT, A Union of Educators and Classified Professionals, which represents over 120,000 education workers across California. C. Brian Little is Senior Director of Policy Advocacy at the California Farm Bureau Federation, where he implements legislative and regulatory initiatives for all matters related to agricultural employment, including occupational safety and health as well as workers’ compensation insurance, for the largest general interest agriculture organization in California. The WCIRB is a private organization licensed by the Department for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and compiling rating data, with funding coming from assessments of its insurance company members.
CAL/OSHA’S COVID-19 PREVENTION
NON-EMERGENCY STANDARDS END AS OF FEB. 2025
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) is advising employers that most of its COVID-19 Prevention Non-Emergency Standards have ended as of February. Cal/OSHA’s regulations took effect February 3, 2023, and remained in effect for two years, except for the reporting and recordkeeping requirements, which remain in effect until 2026.

MOTHER-DAUGHTER DUO GIVES BACK TO THE INDUSTRY
Risk Management veteran Robin Roeder has joined forces with daughter Judy Chaipan to create the Millie Workman Memorial Scholarship. The $7,500 scholarship aims to support an aspiring risk management and insurance industry leader dedicated to helping others. It is specifically intended for undergraduate students pursuing coursework in Risk Management and Insurance and will be administered by the Spencer Educational Foundation. Workman’s illustrious risk management career spanned nearly four decades. Among her many accolades, she was named Risk Manager of the Year in 1992 and one of the 100 Leading Women in the Insurance Industry in 2000 by Business Insurance.
