BCRIMA President's Letter

Welcome!

BCRIMA Members acknowledge the territories of First Nations around B.C. and the Yukon, and are grateful to carry out our work on these lands. We acknowledge the rights, interests, priorities, and concerns of all Indigenous Peoples - respecting and acknowledging their distinct cultures, histories, and rights.  We are committed to building reconciliatory relationships in our communities through our connections in the Risk and Insurance industry.

The 2025/2026 incoming Board members have reviewed and submitted a Commitment and Confidentiality Agreement, renewing their pledge to serve our Chapter and its members with the utmost of professionalism and candor. Our Chapter is working with RIMS to collaborate in updating bylaws, processes and positions with the goals to ensure inclusivity, evolve with the challenges the world has faced in the past number of years, and to continue to be relevant in these changing times.

Without volunteers we would not be able to set and accomplish our goals.  On that note, I would like to thank and introduce you to the incoming 2025 / 2026 BCRIMA Board of Directors team;

I am honoured to have been elected as President of BCRIMA for the coming year. I look forward to working with the Board and our membership to continue building on the strong foundation established in previous years.

Our focus this year will be on expanding our educational offerings to ensure members have access to engaging and relevant content that supports their professional development and licensing requirements. We plan to deliver a diverse selection of webinars, along with at least two in-person sessions that will feature site tours, roundtable discussions, and networking opportunities over a shared meal or event.

In addition to our educational programming, we are excited to build on the success of last year’s Shades of Blue event held last June. This signature gathering was well received, with a fantastic venue, great food, and a vibrant atmosphere. We aim to grow this into a must-attend event within the industry.

We also remain committed to supporting the Coast to Coast (C2C) Legacy Challenge, now entering its second year. This initiative encourages participation from post-secondary institutions offering programs in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Actuarial Science, and related fields. This year, two teams from BCIT will represent British Columbia in Calgary, Alberta. The competition topic presents a valuable opportunity for students to explore complex risk management challenges.

To enhance our communications and outreach, the Board has appointed Ethan Turnbrook to lead our social media efforts. We are now actively posting updates and content on LinkedIn and other platforms to keep our community informed and engaged.

As always, our goal is to serve our members. If anyone has any ideas for a seminar they would like to attend (or lead), or for a fun event, please reach out and let one of the board members know and we will do our best to include your ideas into the offerings this year.

Thank you to the board for trusting me to take the reins of BCRIMA. I look forward to serving the membership and bringing our ideas to life.

Shaun Sinclair
