Joanna Makomaski is an internationally-recognized senior executive and enterprise risk management (ERM) specialist with more than 18 years of experience in the energy, healthcare, and sporting event sectors.Most recently, Joanna served as the vice president of Enterprise Risk Management with the Toronto 2015 Organizing Committee of the Pan/Parapan American Games. Her focus was on instilling Games-wide disciplines of identifying and assessing risk, and ensuring the most appropriate risk response strategies. Other responsibilities included internal audit, health and safety, insurance and claims management.Joanna was recognized for her recent work and has been nominated for the prestigious Global Risk Award 2016 for “Risk Management Professional of the Year” by the Institute of Risk Management (IRM).Makomaski also served as vice president and chief risk officer at HealthNow New York, Inc. in New York, responsible for the development of the company’s ERM and compliance program. Makomaski served prior as principal and senior ERM specialist for V3 Advisory Group and functioned as a risk manager for Enbridge Inc.In June 2007, Makomaski was chosen as one the “100 most influential people in finance” recognized for “elevating risk management to rocket science” by Treasury and Risk magazine.Makomaski is an instructor of Enterprise Risk Management principles globally, and a staff columnist for Risk and Insurance magazine. She has been an active member of the Risk and Insurance Management Society’s ERM Development Committee.Joanna is a certified risk management professional and a licensed professional engineer.
