As a CPA, I have been working in the charity, international development and humanitarian sector most of my career. Risk Management was mostly about ERM, aid diversion and crisis management!
I now work as CFO and Executive Director, Corporate Services for Curling Canada, the national sport governing body for the sport of curling in Canada. In that capacity, I oversee the Finance, IT, HR, Risk and Assurance areas of a diverse organization which focuses on developing and promoting the sport of curling at the community level all the way up to World Championships and Olympics. We organize and host major annual events such as The Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the Brier, and the World Championships. Our operational risks range from property and D&O to Abuse in Sport and all risks related to hosting events for thousands of attendees! Climate change, the shrinking of disposable income, ESG, resonate with our strategic risks.
