At the intersection of meteorological disasters and cybersecurity, you will find an untapped area of risk that is rarely managed. Dawn Wedig will delve into how and why weather disasters attract cyber criminals and what you can do to protect yourselves and your businesses.
Dawn's Bio:
Dawn has been chasing clouds her entire life. Dawn first discovered her love for weather at an early age, growing up on the Central Florida coast watching the afternoon thunderstorms roll in off the ocean and patiently waiting year over year for the start of hurricane season. Dawn received her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from the University of North Carolina Asheville in 2012, concentrating on the social impacts of weather and how populations interact with weather warnings. Dawn went on to pursue a master’s degree in environmental management from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (2015), with a concentration in environmental policy.
After completion of her studies, Dawn went on to work for North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM), where she utilized her background in weather as an Emergency Management Specialist to educate, warn, and prepare North Carolina residents for natural disasters of all types including tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, droughts, and winter storms. Dawn later served as the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s first on-staff meteorologist, lending her expertise during large sporting events, graduation ceremonies, and campus activities, as well as establishing the University’s first weather-specific Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
In 2021, Dawn made a dramatic career shift from watching clouds to managing cybersecurity cloud compliance. For the past three years, Dawn has built NetApp’s Global Security Compliance Program from the ground up, including a comprehensive audit program to include control management, audit consolidation, compliance tool automation, and AI simplification, culminating in a transparent customer-focused environment.
