Bio

William H. Rabel, Ph.D., FLMI, CLU, is John & Mary Louise Loftis Bickley Endowed Teaching Professor of Insurance & Financial Services, Culverhouse College of Commerce & Business Administration, University of Alabama. At the end of his first year of teaching, the Alabama Finance Association selected him for the Outstanding Faculty Award: 2006-2007.Bill has a broad background in business and education. Prior to joining the University of Alabama he elected to take an early retirement option from LOMA (Life Office Management Association) where as Senior Vice President, Education & Training he lead a strategic business unit that provided programs for those involved in the management and operations of financial services companies. Under Bill’s leadership, LOMA's FLMI Program became the world's largest university-level professional education program in financial services. It is used in some sixty countries and is offered in seven languages. He was also responsible for LOMA’s other designation and training programs and for the LOMA professional movement, which is comprised of 40,000+ individuals and more than 40 local societies around the globe. Earlier Bill served as Dean of The American College's Huebner School of CLU Studies. He also has served on the faculty of Syracuse University’s College of Business and was an Economic Affairs Officer for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva, Switzerland. His UNCTAD report on professional education has provided a blueprint for institutions in the Third World.Bill serves on the board of trustees, S. S. Huebner Foundation, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He also has been appointed as a Fellow Professor at Peking and Renmin (People’s) Universities, both of Beijing, China and is a member of the Council of Senior Advisors, China Center for Insurance and Social Security Research. He is also a member of the Singapore College of Insurance International Faculty.Bill was a visiting professor at Kuwait University and for many years served as an adjunct Professor of Risk Management & Insurance at Georgia State University. An active member of several professional organizations where he has played a leadership role, Bill has twice been elected as a director of the American Risk & Insurance Association, where he received the President’s Award; also, he has twice been a member of the Board of Governors, Asia-Pacific Risk & Insurance Association, where he served for three years as chairman or co-chairman of the nominating committee, and is now APRIA’s secretary. Bill has served as chairman or a member of the strategic planning committee of several organizations, including the American Society of CLU, the American Risk & Insurance Association, the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurances, and the International Insurance Society.
